A Brief Study of Old Stones

Volume one

These photographs study stones that were moved, constructed and positioned between ten and six thousand years ago.

The specific function of each stone or group of stones is only theorised, with no definitive answers. Its understood that some groups of stones may have been burial chambers, whilst other could have been communal spaces. Some stones appear to have eastern or western orientations or relationships to one another, but with reason and purpose unknown.

Thousands of years have passed since their positioning with the true purpose of each stone lost. Now they stand in space like ambiguous sculptures, signs within the landscape reflecting our abilities to communicate, organise and imagine the world around us.
